Quest text[edit]

Kiruu tells you, Before you leave, wise and powerful <player>, may this lowly one make a suggestion? A thousand gratitudes, and indeed I shall be brief. All beings are composed of body, mind and spirit, as the great windlord knows. The body of the venerable Allathos cannot be restored, alas, but what remains the great one has access to. The means of strengthening the spirit I have just given to you, of course. Now the great windlord should seek a means of strengthening the mind as well. Perhaps the maker of the recording stone knows a way to enhance the mind of those using these stones? Ah, of course, I should have realized that you would have thought of that already, mighty one.

Well, who then would the great lord say was the most learned master of dragon magic? Grizelian? A powerful name, indeed! If there is such a magic, I have no doubt this master Grizelian will know of it. Good fortune in your efforts, mighty <player>. I shall be praying for your success.

Grizelian tells you, A means of strengthening the mental connection between yourself and a spirit? Why would you want to do such a thing, <player>? The spirit of Allathos the scholar?! Well, in that case I'd say that sounds like a perfectly reasonable course of action. Sadly, I know of no such spell. If you will give me some time, I will research the question as best I can. In the mean time, you might speak with Nielenoss, outside of New Rachival. The tiny naka can be very clever and he knows them well. He may have heard something you will find useful. Wind to your wings, cousin.

Nielenoss tells you, Hmm, quite an interesting tale, <player>. I've never heard of any ability known as 'Drulkar's Wrath', but I must say, the prospect of recovering even a single piece of lost knowledge for our people is, well, highly motivating to say the least.

Nielenoss tells you, As far as I know, there aren't any specific NRRI research paths that would be of any direct assistance to you. However, Morran Gizmogrinder has been working on ways of interacting with non-corporeal Withered Aegis. Her research is more along the lines of capturing and controlling, but still she might have something useful. Now, now, don't go getting all scrapetail on me! Research may be a long and winding journey, but every beat of your wings brings you closer to your destination.

Morran tells you, A device that would help you communicate with a spirit? Well, yes and no. My GECK does facilitate communication with non-corporeal entities, but normally the entity in question is imprisoned in an ethereal transition state across a couple of poly-cobalt baffles, which is really probably not very comfortable and I don't think it's something you'd want to do to your spirit friend. In fact, I'm not really even sure you'd get her back out in one piece. Do you think she'd mind if I probed her corpus ethereum for peak excited-state valen- don't snarl, it was just a question.

Morran tells you, Well, as I was saying, the GECK does enhance your ability to communicate with non-corporeal entities. It's a matter of mitigating vibrational dissonance between your ethereal self and the spirit's residual consciousness. There's a device called a dissonometer that can gauge relative dissonance, but it won't do anything to help you mitigate it. It was originally designed to help root out mind lashers, not help us talk to them. I doubt it will help you any, but the person who requisitioned it from me, Doc Tarrant, needed it specifically for research into mental communication. He's assigned to the new settlement in Delgarath as the outpost medic. If anyone in the Empire is going to be able to help you, it'll be him.

Tarrant tells you, Greetings, dragon. Please state the nature of your medical emergency. If you are not having a medical emergency, one may be provided for you due to having interrupted my studies.

A scientific query, you say? Alright, I'm listening...

Tarrant tells you, Very interesting indeed, dragon, and as it happens your inquiry actually is related to my research. I'm trying to learn more about how the mylocs communicate. They appear to have both an individual consciousness and at least some degree of hive consciousness. Part of my research on this phenomenon involves isolating and enhancing mental energies, so it's possible I might be able to come up with something to be of assistance to you. In return, I need some assistance with a bit of field work. Think about it, then let me know if you are interested.
