Gwyrath tells you, What brings you here to my respite, friend? I may not have much advice to give to one of your stature, but perhaps my stories of old could ignite some conversation?

Gwyrath tells you, Ask away. I enjoy a good chat.

What are you doing up here? Gwyrath tells you, I am far too old to brave the battlefield these days. I fear I may attempt to fly and find my wings cannot pull me from danger soon enough. Instead, I serve our kind by watching over this island. Hatchlings journey here, fresh from Skalkaar, and their Gifted blood is what will help end this war someday. I cannot hide in my lair and sleep with a clear conscience knowing that the undead lay stake on the land of newly Gifted. So, I have posted myself as a Guardian of sorts, watching over the island. Should anything threaten this land further, I will bring down the flames of Drulkar himself across the undead that dare tresspass.

How does hoard benefit our kind? Gwyrath tells you, We are powered by our hoard, <player>. Not just our ego! No - we syphon power directly from our stash of precious materials. It infuses some of our attacks with power, such as the mighty Gold Rage. It also meshes with our scales to protect us from damage and empowers our elemental breaths. With each season, you must have more hoard to gain the increased benefit. Maintain it well! A dragon without a hoard is a dragon without scales.

I want to know more about advanced combat.

Weaknesses and Resistances

Gwyrath tells you, Most monsters have weaknesses and resistances. However, you cannot see them right away. You have to try different damage types against them to see what works best. Usually, they will follow logic. A bony skeleton or a shelled beetle are weak to being crushed by a good tail whip, as you cannot score or pierce them. Elemental beasts such as ice golems will melt from our flame breath, and fire golems are weak to ice.

I am sure dragons and naka'duskael alike will tell you what a monster fears most when asked.

Stances

Gwyrath tells you, Stances are abilities that grant a passive bonus when used. There is no 'best stance' for any particular situation, but certain abilities might gain an additional effect under a certain stance - like Claw Strike. A spellcaster may opt for the Primalist's Stance, while those that fight with their claws prefer the Conqueror's. Watch what your enemy is doing, consider your fighting style, and choose what feels best to you.

Crowd Control (Stuns, Roots, Mezzes)

Gwyrath tells you, There are three main categories of crowd control. Stuns, like Tail Whip, are hits that prevent all actions and movement for a period of time. Mezmerizes, or mezzes, prevent actions and movements, but the spell can be broken if too much damage is dealt. Roots, like the spell Primal Chains, do not prevent actions and will break after a certain amount of damage, but prevent movement and generally are tougher to remove than mezmerizes. All crowd control effects give a short grace period of immunity before you or your enemy can be affected again. Use them wisely!

Boons and Banes

Gwyrath tells you, Augmentations come in two flavors - boons and banes. Boons are positive effects, generally granting increases to your skills or ability to deal damage. Boons can come from hundreds of sources, but are usually obtained through abilities, consumables, or spells. If you see a friendly powerful Gifted, ask them for a quick touch-up on your boons! Naka'duskael can cast many more boons than we may. Exchanging our boons and working together will result in the most powerful Gifted.

Banes, on the other hand, are delirious effects. These come from abilities and spells and can cause damage over time or other negative effects. To combat this, you can use dispelling abilities or spells.

Dispels

Gwyrath tells you, Dispelling abilities and spells are able to remove delirious effects from yourself or positive effects from your enemy. Be aware that it also works in reverse, so enemies can remove your boons as well! Keep an eye out for any of these nasty attacks.

Certain boons or banes will be harder to remove than others and cannot be removed by dispels with a weaker dispelling strength. While you cannot see the dispel strength needed to remove augmentations, you can see the dispelling strength of your own dispels.

Delay and Recycle

Gwyrath tells you, Delay refers to the time before a spell is cast or an ability or item is used. A shorter delay means a quicker action. Items that reduce delay are therefore very powerful! The faster you attack, the faster you can react and deal damage. At most, you can reduce your delay so much that you only have a one-second interval. Even our superior minds cannot handle actions so swift.

Recycle, similarly, is the amount of time it takes for an item, ability, or spell to be usable again. Recycle reduction is very rare and hard to find, but immensely powerful, as your abilities and spells are where most of your power comes from.

Consumables

Gwyrath tells you, Consumable items, usually shortened to consumables, are items that you can use to gain some form of benefit. In Istaria, there is a wide range of consumables. The majority of these are crafted by Gifted - potions are made by naka alchemists and crystals are made by our own crystalshapers. Both can provide large benefits to an adventurer! Some very powerful bonuses can also be found in the form of purchaseable items called baubles, offered by Pawnbrokers for coin. Spend wisely!
